Nomads,
So Much has happened since this report in the May bellsheet and our last monthly meeting at Cato ridge. Nationals has come and gone with the Natal team doing well to finish 3 rd on a very tough golf course with greens equal to those at Augusta, according to Dales Hayes who spent quite some time at these nationals. Congratulations to Melville Muir and Shaun Barker for winning their respective divisions as well as Shaun for being the leading scorer of the Natal contingent.
The event culminated in the handing over of the reigns of nomads to new national chairman Simon Lee to whom we at Natal wish all the best for his year at the helm.
The Andrew Mentis golf day was a tremendous success. I have only had positive feedback from all who attended. Congratulations to Richard Agar and his committee for their efforts in organizing this event and well done on achieving your expected earnings.
Once again our monthly game at Umkomaas golf club was really an enjoyable day with the course and facilities living up to the standards that we as nomads expect. It is just such a pity the we as nomads don’t reciprocate with our attendance. We only had 109 players in the field and obviously a poor attendance at prize giving was inevitable. As usual I had an amazing
4 ball with Greg Thiel, Captain of Umkomaas as my partner as well as Past National Chairman Ken Walker ‘making up’ from Western Province and of course the big hitting Guy Armstrong. Sorry for them this didn’t count and the monies remain 4.0.
Congratulations to all the divisional winners on the day; (A Division, Ronnie Maritz,
40 points), (B Division, Eric Morsner, 37 points) and (C Division, Graham Biffen, 38 points), well done gentlemen.
We had visitors with us from Southern natal in Rod Spero as well as a regular face Graham Biffen and Ronnie Maritz and Tony Collins for the first time. Welcome chaps.
Gauteng Nomads celebrated their 50th anniversary in style at a 3 day weekend event at Johannesburg’s Randpark golf club. It was a wonderful weekend of all the golf and partying that you would expect from these occasions and extremely well organized by the gautengers. 50 years is an amazing achievement and when you attend events like this you can just see the amazing strength of the nomads golf club There is a 50 year commemorative coffee table book available so if you want to indulge in our history this ones for you so make a plan to get yourselves a copy.
Gentlemen, handicaps have been topical of late and confusion reigns as to the inputting of scores and when and where. Contrary to my recommendation at the last prize giving to swipe your cards at the host club on the day you play and then enter your scores afterwards it is now recommended to put your scores in at your home club but ensuring that you also enter the correct club where you played as well as that clubs course rating. I am waiting on written confirmation and will get this to all as soon as possible.
You will see in the photo gallery some pics of the prize giving from the 1st of 5 Natal nomads sponsored golf days with in the SAJGF. This forms part of our ongoing commitment to junior golf. The funds used for this sponsorship will be raised from the Volvo golf day on the 3rd June. I have posted in the note book all the sponsored events for your interest.
Our next monthly game will be at Royal Durban Golf club and will also be the official visit from our National chairman Simon Lee.
Your finesmaster at Royal Durban will be Pat Smythe.
See you all there.
Alan Lukan
