Nomads,

Our June 24th game at Royal Durban was the culmination of many hours of planning and organization, contrary to the normal monthly meetings, in preparation for the official visit of National chairman Simon Lee. Well, as is always the case, good planning returns good results. Simon thoroughly enjoyed his visit as his report indicates (recently circulated) and we were surely honoured when he states that this would be his choice of home club were he ever to move from his current home of Southern Natal.
Simon complimented the smooth running of the day, the friendliness of our ladies at registration, the general camaraderie of all the nomads’ members, our relationship with the host club and our discipline in maintaining protocol, which, all in all, ensures that the Natal nomads club is a strong and a happy one.
The evening highlight was the presentation to Simon of a Boxed frame housing the Bafana Bafana football jersey and other memorabilia signifying the relevance of his visit during the 2010 World Cup. I am sure this will take pride of place in the “new room” he will need to build for this and other gifts he will receive during his tenure.

I had the Pleasure of Royal Durban’s Captain, Frans Kemper and John Dickson in my 4 ball and thoroughly enjoyed both their company. Simon pulled rank with his senior position so with him as my partner we managed to stay on a roll and again take the money.

The treatment we receive from the Royal Durban management and staff is always exemplary and the golf course as per normal in superb condition. We are truly privileged to be recognized by clubs such as this. We enjoyed a typical Durban winters day but with the course playing long it presented quite a challenge as can be seen by the low scores.

We were joined on the day by 2 visiting Nomads from Gauteng in Ron Panaino and Mike Perkins. Paddy Naidoo was a guest of Garth Enslin and waiting list members were Nevin Davidson, David Buxton and Stan Werne. I am sure you all had a great day with the Natal boys. It was also great to see Roy Parker back on the golf course after a long time. Roy I know you too enjoyed your game and look forward to your good health and steady appearances in future.

We welcome two new Nomads who were inducted on the evening in Greg Graham, a 3 rd Generation Nomad and Frans Higgins. Gentlemen enjoy the ride and remember to get involved in the wonderful camaraderie that nomads have to offer.

Fred Stopforth received his 25 year tie; what an example for the two newby’s mentioned above. 10 year ties were also awarded to Charlie Reid and Joel Lauretet.
Melville Muir also received his 100 game badge. Another fine example of a committed nomad that you would want to emulate.
Congratulations to all of you gentlemen.

Congratulations to all the divisional winners on the day; A Division, Gary Smith on 36 points, B Division Mark Brazier on 38 points and C Division Cliff Cartmel on 38 points, well done gentlemen.

Sadly we said goodbye to Denis Cochrane who passed away in June. Denis was a 42 year Nomad who was club Captain in 1985 and served for more than 24 years on our committee. Most of you, I am sure, will remember Denis as you walk onto your tee box in your future monthly games. Our sincere condolences are extended to Denis’s wife and family.

Our next monthly game will be at Bluff national Park Golf club on the 20 Th July.

Your finesmaster at Bluff will be the one and only Chris Nel.
See you all there.

Alan Lukan
